10:00 a.m. ---- Festival Natural Trumpet Ensemble Rehearsal (Merrick Hall)
- Depending on attendance and instrument availability, participants will be able to play trumpet ensemble music and gain experience with these unique instruments. Participants are invited to bring their own natural or Baroque trumpets in C at Baroque pitch (A=415). Sheet music will be provided; bringing along wire music stands is encouraged. This is an informal rehearsal. Those who are interested in trying out reproductions of historic instruments are invited to play along and join the fun. Trumpeters who can stay for the whole day will perform on the evening concert in Haebler Chapel after a brief dress rehearsal in the afternoon (5 pm, listed below).
11:30 a.m. --- LUNCH BREAK
- Meals will not be provided for festival participants, however Goucher's Stimson Cafeteria will be open for those who wish to buy lunch on campus.
1:00 p.m. --- Brian Shaw Clinic (Merrick Hall)
- Festival Guest Artist Brian Shaw will discuss differences and the similarities in playing the high baroque natural trumpet as well jazz lead trumpet.
2:00 p.m. --- Clinic with the Kentucky Baroque Trumpets (Merrick Hall)
3:00 p.m. --- U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps Performance (Merrick Hall)
- Don't miss this rare opportunity to see the full marching show of this outstanding ensemble in colonial uniforms. This is the same group that performed at the Presidental Inauguration last year; they are featured on the MEBF home page. Always an audience favorite, the Old Guard is celebrating an important anniversary this year, so be sure to salute their impressive achievements.
4:15 p.m.--- Dress rehearsal for evening concert (Haebler Chapel)
- The rehearsal is open to the public, however proper audience decorum is expected so that the musicians can get their work done. Those who wish to ask questions are requested to wait until the rehearsal is over to approach performers. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
5:30 p.m. --- DINNER BREAK
- Meals will not be provided for festival participants, however Goucher's Stimson Cafeteria will be open for those who wish to buy dinner on campus.

Special Note: A Fond Farewell
This will be the last time I will be able to host the Maryland Early Brass Festival. Over the past five years, it has been a distinct privilege to work with so many wonderful musicians and to share my love of brass history with Goucher and the surrounding community. While my interest in this area of research has increased, so have the number of professional obligations that must be prioritized. It’s hard to admit that we can’t “do it all” – especially when we disappoint others in the process – but it’s much harder to risk lowering standards that in turn provoke a more toxic brand of disappointment.
But this is only farewell, not goodbye. The festival will return in the future when it can receive the time and resources it deserves, perhaps in a new format. In the meantime, I want to thank all of those who have supported the festival and have helped to build awareness of the unique value of historic brass instruments.
