Stanley Curtis

 

This year's Artist-in-Residence is Stanley Curtis, a nationally-known performer of the Baroque trumpet, the cornett, 19th-century cornets and trumpets, and modern trumpets. Dr. Curtis has appeared as soloist with the Milwaukee Baroque, Washington Bach Consort, the Orchestra of the 17th Century, the Bach Sinfonia, the Washington Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble, and the Nederlandse Kantorij. A member of the United States Navy Band, he performs regularly with the USNB Brass Quartet. Dr. Curtis has also performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, Indianapolis, Owensboro, Akron, and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestras. He founded and leads the Washington Baroque trumpet ensemble, "Battaglia." He has hosted the Historic Division of the National Trumpet Competition since 2004, collaborating with Baroque trumpeters Crispian Steele-Perkins and Friedemann Immer. In addition, Dr. Curtis has arranged trumpet ensemble showcases for the 2001 International Trumpet Guild Conference and the 2006 National Trumpet Competition. He has performed as soloist on his original composition, Concerto for Brass Quartet and Band with the U.S. Navy Band, and he was the subject of a feature interview in the January 2008 issue of the International Trumpet Guild Journal.
