2006 Newberry's Victorian Cornet Band specializes in North American brass band music of the 1880s.  The band will be the featured ensemble at the festival concert and will conduct a workshop on the music, instruments, and performing style of late 19th century brass.  Click here for more information.  Newberry Band Workshop

Barry Bauguess (natural trumpet)  has appeared and recorded with many of North America's period instrument orchestras, as well as in Germany, Italy, and Japan, and is co-director of the Clarino Consort.  Mr Bauguess conducted a master-class with four baroque trumpet players, then participated in a roundtable discussion entitled 'Teaching Natural Trumpet to High School Students.'  At the festival concert, he performed music by Biber, Rittler, and Vejvanovsky.  Click here for more information.

2004 Federal City Brass Band (1860s brass band) is one of the nation's leading Civil War re-enactment bandsLed by Jari Villanueva, the group conducted an afternoon workshop on civil war era instruments, music, and performance style in which participants were allowed to play on original mid-19th century instruments.  FCBB later performed a program of Maryland-related works.  Click here for more information.
2003 Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble - Members of the WC&SE conducted a workshop for cornett and sackbut players.  Discussion topics included divisions, 16th and 17th century intonation, playing from facsimiles, and articulation.  Participants prepared several works that were performed at the evening concert.  The full ensemble performed on the festival program.  Read a report of the festival by clicking here.
2001 Dr Kiri Tollaksen (cornetto) demonstrated and discussed the basic points of cornetto playing and seventeenth century performance practice and ornamentation.  Click here for more information.
