John of Gaunt and the duchess, Blanche

     Although John remarried in 1377, in 1379 he paid the sum of £30, a knight's annual earnings, for nineteen memorial masses sung in her name.  In 1382, he paid 10 silver marks (slightly less) for masses and his will (1398) stipulated that he be buried beside her.  What does that suggest to you about their relationship?
