This is "Edwin," a rooster of a breed called a "Sweater" (wonder why?) which unfortunately is raised to fight other roosters (note the huge "spurs" at the backs of its feet).  Chaunticleer has been identified, by Boone (MLN 64 [1949] 78-81), as a Golden Speckled Hamburg.  Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in finding an image of one of these birds, but imagine Edwin with azure legs and toes, a black beak, and a similarly proud bearing, and you've got the general idea.
