"The Cook's Tale of Gamelyn"

If you are interested in pursuing the way Chaucer's works were altered and re-interpreted by the fifteenth-century writers who followed him, you might want to explore this brief tale which was invented to solve the "problem" of the "Cook's Fragment."  This might be useful if you wanted to try out your sense of Chaucerian style--what about it identifies it as spurious, not really Chaucer's work.  Skeat's introduction will cover that, of course, and it might also set up some propositions about Chaucerian style that you might be able to test and argue about regarding other "authentic" works.
