The heat of the day had fallen off, and the wind would be rising, with the promise of rain. C'est belle maintenant, I told one of the waiters, quand tout le jardin respire à la fois. It was beautiful. Almost overwhelmingly beautiful and powerful, as the garden breathed in all at once with its tremendous inspiration.  The seductive movement of the leaves in their receding planes toward the swimming pool and the wall took me very near to trance.
