| Reminders for philosophy/religion papers |
|
Writing papers in philosophy/religion classes is slightly different from writing papers in English classes, particularly when it comes to citations. Here are some things to remember for these papers.
Some basic reminders 1. Remember to number your pages.
2. Remember to include a cover sheet.
3. While sometimes you have enough material to write a page-long paragraph, there are many times when it is better to break it up. Professors have a hard time reading paragraphs that are a page or a page and a half in length.
4. When critiquing a journal article, there are four things that you should include in the very first paragraph: the author's name, the title of the journal article, a synopsis of the author's position/argument, and a synopsis of what the critique will be.
When citing the Bible
If you are citing the Bible, the format is name of the book(1 space)Chapter number(colon):verse number(s). Examples: John 3:16 is the gospel according to John, chapter 3:verse 16. 2Kings 5:11-16 is Second Kings Chapter 5, verses 11 through 16. Romans 1:4; 2:12-14, 18 is Romans Chapter 1 verse 4; Chapter 2 verses 12 through 14 and Chapter 2 verse 18.
