The Writing Center is
staffed entirely by student tutors who have gone through special training.
We all have different areas of expertise and are equipped to handle any
and all types of problems related to writing. Who We Are: Jen Curtis 08: Hi! Im a senior this year and my major is English (Secondary Ed concentration). Some of my favorite English related topics are the Victorian Era, Post-Modernism, and critical methods. I took Post-Modernism with Penny Cordish the semester she became obsessed with House of Leaves and Pale Fire, so I have read both these books. I can also help with low-level Spanish papers (for 235 or lower). On the technical side, I like working with organization and structure as well as grammar. Simone Martell 08: I am a senior interdisciplinary major, focusing on English, anthropology and philosophy. Ive taken several creative writing work shops in both fiction and non-fiction, as well as courses in her other designated disciplines. Im familiar with the teachings of Jonathan Jackson, Madison Smartt Bell, Arnie Sanders, George Baca, John Rose, Barbara Roswell, and many fine others. A self-proclaimed grammar-phile, I have a pet dinosaur whom I affectionately call "Coco." Laura Reese 08: Hello! I am a senior English and Secondary Education major. I have taken classes with much of the English dept. faculty, especially Arnie Sanders, Mary Marchand, and Fred White. I love American Literature, so feel free to bring me anything relating to that topic. I also really enjoy and understand critical methods and literary theory, so Id be happy to help with Eng 215 papers or, for that matter, any papers that employ critical methods. I can also help with grammar and am definitely more than willing to just sit down and bounce ideas around, so come see me at any stage of your writing process! Emily Blatter 08: I am an English major with a concentration in creative writing. I have had lots of classes with Jen Bess, so I can be helpful when writing Jen Bess papers. Holly Roland 09: I'm a psychology major and creative structures minor (that's a mix of art, literature, and philosophy--even I still get confused about it) and am currently in my junior year. I really like working with journalism assignments, creative writing stories and poetry, and can do a little grammar if need be. I'm familiar with MLA and APA format, so any fellow science majors, feel free to stop by and eat some cookies with me. Anna Waltman 08: I'm a senior double-majoring in English (Literature concentration) and Political Science, with particular skills in the structuring and tone of literary analysis and essays dealing with abstract ideas. In the Political Science department, most of my courses have been in political philosophy/theory and comparative politics. I also have some background in international human rights issues. As far as English goes, I love critical theory and would be more than happy to help anyone struggling with ENG200 or ENG215. When I'm not in class you can usually find me knitting or reading. Kaity Miller 08: Hi! Im an English major with a creative writing concentration and Im a senior this year. I like to read fiction, creative non-fiction, and anything to do with Shakespeare or other dead white guys (like Chaucer or Poe). My advisor is Jeff Myers and I have a strong understanding of what he looks for in papers and error logs, so come see me if you need help with one of his classes. Im also good with grammar, structure, organization, and MLA style. Margaret Samuels 09: I am a Physics and Interdisciplinary Studies major in Creative Science Writing. I am the sole science major in the Writing Center. However, for those of you writing elaborate Biology labs -- I can, of course, check for grammar and flow issues, but I am not well-versed in the meticulous details involved in Biology lab writing. But please feel free to bring me any papers in the sciences or mathematics the Writing Center is not just for English papers. I specialize in Creative Writing of all kinds (prose, poetry, nonfiction), as well as grammar, punctuation, and organization. I can help people most significantly with academic papers for English, Economics, History, Music, Science, or Mathematics. I can also help you get started with a paper and spark ideas for theses, etc. Write happy! Josh Sasson 08: I am a senior English major with a creative writing concentration. My tutoring specialties include grammar and creative writing. I know just enough Spanish to help students at the 110-130 level. Also, I am a big film nerd, but dont hold that against me. Milena Rodban 08 Greg Bortnichak 08
