Important Dates for Composition Faculty, 2005-2006

Pre-Semester

August 1 (Mon.)—deadline for putting books on library reserve for Fall ’05 (don’t worry—they’ll do it later but they won’t promise to do it in time for any particular class).

August 26 (Fri.)—Writing Placement Essay scoring for the remaining freshmen and transfers (probably about 100 essays!), from 9:00 AM until around noon—volunteers    needed!


Week 1:

August 31 (Wed.)—1st day of classes


Week 2:

September 5 (Mon.)—Labor Day Holiday

September 7 (Wed.)—Faculty Meeting 3:30 Heubeck

September 9 (Fri.)—Registrar requests first draft of Spring ’06 teaching schedule! (expect an email soon from Arnie); Last day to add/drop/audit courses with advisor’s signature.


Week 3:

September 13 (Tues.)—Notify Registrar (Pat Kelly) of students who are on your roster and not attending, never attended, attended but not on roster, etc.

September 16 (Fri.)—WPDir must return preliminary schedule for comp classes in Spring ‘06


Week 4:

September 21 (Wed.)—Chairs and Program Dirs Meeting (Heubeck)


Week 5:  nothing much


Week 6:

October 4 (Tues.)—Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan begin (Rosh Hashanah ends 10/5; Ramadan ends 11/3)

October 7 (Fri.)—Notify Registrar of intention to hold Final Exam (or not).


Week 7:

October 12 (Wed.)—Faculty Meeting 3:30 Heubeck

October 13 (Thurs.)—Yom Kippur

October 14 (Fri.)—Mid-Semester Break begins—runs through Sun. 10/16


Week 8:

October 17 (Mon.)—Send Academic Progress Report for all freshmen and any other students in trouble!

October 18 (Tues.)—Sukkot (10/18-19 most important days)

October 21 (Fri.)—Last day to elect P/NP instead of grade for course!; Final Spring ’06 schedule sent to Registrar’s Office.


Week 9:

October 26 (Wed.)—Chairs and Program Dirs Mtg. Heubeck


Week 10:

October 31 (Mon.)—Halloween

November 2 (Wed.)—Faculty Meeting 3:30 Heubeck


Week 11: [Advising Week for Spring ’06 Registration]

November 9 (Wed.)—Notify Registrar (Pat Kelly) of any students attending who are not on the roster or any on the roster who are not attending.

November 11 (Fri.)—Last day to drop a course with an advisor’s signature (a “W” on transcript—of concern only to pre-med students).


Week 12: [Registration week for Spring ‘06]

November 16 (Wed.)—Chairs and Program Dirs Mtg. Heubeck


Week 13: November 23 (Wed.) through 27 (Sun.)—Thanksgiving Vacation


Week 14: nothing much


Week 15:

December 7 (Wed.)—Faculty Meeting 3:30 Heubeck

December 8 (Thurs.)—Last day of classes.


Week 16: Exam week and post-semester

December 16 (Fri.)—Deadline for submission of CWP portfolios (to Arnie) from strong English 104 students with an A- or better in the class.


Week 17: Last grades in December 20 (Tuesday)

May 31 (Wed.)--Annual Record form and Updated CV due to Academic Dean's Office (and to Arnie!) from all FT and HT faculty.
