Note: All hyperlinks will take you to an NCTE login screen. If you are not a member with an account (i.e., userid and password), you can access the PDF files containing the articles in the Writing Program public folder under "English Department." If you do not have access to the public folders for some reason, I can email you the PDFs as attached files.
9:00-9:30 Coffee and tea in Athenaeum 422
9:30-10:45 Reviewing and "Reflecting Upon" Our Self-Assessment Strategy and First Results, June 2011. Click on the link to see the data on a single web page, or check your email for the files attached to the workshop reminder message. The data are most easily comparable if the semesters are set side-by-side, but the web page would not cooperate, so a printout would work best. Things to keep in mind: Fall 105s are advanced placement but still first-semester freshmen; Spring 105s are standard-issue freshmen, most of whom passed 104; any 106s are sophomores or above, often seniors; SOL2's "research" element is the minimal one, whereas SOL3 demands at least some scholarly sources located using modern online bibliographic tools, engaging and integrating conflicting arguments, etc. Click here for some initial assessment issues.
